Life jacket from past to present and from Kapok to Inflatable’s and Synthetics

Life jacket is life saving device and it’s been like that for thousand years. Naturally first jackets haven’t look like jackets, they look like something that floats. People used piece of wood, hollow animal skin, piece of cork or anything else that could prevent person from drowning.

Early Materials

First design of the life jacket that we see today has been invented on November 16, 1841 by a Napoleon Guerin. He patented his design to the United States Patent Office.
